Nutritional Status of Children and Adolescents with Type1 Diabetes Mellitus in Basra

Background: Growth problems represent an important complication in children and adolescent with Type1 diabetes mellitus poor metabolic control seems to impact their growth velocity. Aim: assess the nutritional status type 1 mellitus, relation selected patients' variables. Methods: a case-control study has been carried out of sixty-one patients mellitus; eighty-two age sex matched healthy as group; ages ranged from 3-14 year, 1st October 2016 till 15th March 2017. Results: The mean diabetic was (10.3±3.02) years; (60.66%) belong large family size low education. Diabetic significantly families financial support income (45.9%) compared group (26.8%) (p value 0.02), well those undernourished belongs than normal (75%, 38%) respectively. Body mass index below 5th percentile controls (19.68 %, 2.4 %) respectively; P 0.001. History inadequate dietary intake recorded 66.67% patients; related undernutrition diabetics (P 0.002). Undernutrition associated glycemic high level HbA1c (13.9±9.57) without (10.6±5.28) Conclusions: Frequent evaluation is required overcome problem mellitus.
